Looking for someplace to eat in Washington, DC? Look no further than District Chophouse and Brewery.
Finding a good place to eat near the National Mall in Washington, DC has always been a challenge. Unless you want something quick from a food cart (which are not too bad, by the way) traditional sit-down restaurants require a diversion off the main mall area. In this case, however, the short walk is quite worth it! District Chophouse is located near the Verizon Center, about 3 1/2 blocks north of the National Mall near the Archives/Navy Memorial/Penn Quarter Metro station.
I discovered District Chophouse about a year ago, and have made several visits since then. The amazing venue, with forever-high ceilings, large indoor columns, rich colors, and fine details provides a welcome relief after a day of sightseeing.
The main draw are the steaks and beer…and I admit, I have tried neither (I was never hungry enough for a steak, and I don’t drink:)…but everything on the menu looks delicious. I have had a few different items, but my favorite is the Chophouse Signature Pub Burger. However, before you dive into your entree, be sure to ask for their complementary corn bread. This is no ordinary corn bread. This divine delight is served piping hot, right in the skillet!
If cornbread doesn’t quite do it for you, and you are game for going a tad less-healthy, the Colossal Onion Rings (served as a huge tower of yumminess!) is the way to go.
The main event: The Chophouse Signature Pub Burger. As described on the menu: “Proprietary blend of ground short rib and chuck served smashed with peppered bacon, white cheddar, chophouse pub sauce, house-pickled red onions & beef steak tomatoes on brioche bun.” YUM!
Hint- If you are a fan of fry-sauce (my Utah friends and those in western states know what I am referring to!) be sure to ask for extra “pub sauce” for dipping:)
This is a popular spot with the local businesses during the work week, so if you want to be seated quickly, plan to arrive early to avoid the lunch rush. The last time we went, we arrived at 11:30, and within 30. minutes, the place was packed!
A visit to District Chophouse is always a treat. Bon appetite!
