The Washington DC area has some amazing museums downtown. But if you are willing to venture just 33 miles south of the city, you will discover one of the areas best museums: The National Museum of the Marine Corps. This museum, located conveniently off I-95 near Quantico, has so much to offer visitors, both young and old. And for those with young children, this is especially true because of their family-friendly events and Family Days. Read below for some events that are coming up over the next few months:
Jan 28-29: Rappahannock Model Railroaders Display
A local railroad group will have displays of O gauge railroads assembled in the Leatherneck Gallery. You can read more about the event on another post here.
Feb 11: FAMILY DAY (12pm-3pm)- Ship Shape: Why do boats float?
At this event, participate in hands-on activities involving density and buoyancy…things needed to keep boats afloat. Click here to view the flyer for the event.
Mar 11: FAMILY DAY (5pm-8pm)- Astronomy: Celestial Navigation
Explore and learn about ancient navigational techniques and use modern telescopes to view the stars in the night sky! Dress for the weather since this will be an outdoor activity.
Apr 8: FAMILY DAY (12-3pm)- Month of the Military Child – Semper Healthy and Fit
Join in for a day of fun with fitness and health demonstrations, and hands-on activities. Don’t forget to wear your sneakers!
Apr 27: Geography Day (9:30am-3:30pm)
Today is the day for all things related to Geography. Activities/demonstrations to include orienteering, GIS and map making, and so much more!
